What a Skype rental costs, country by country
Same number, same window, different country. The per-day column divides each rental by the days it covers, which is the figure to compare when you are deciding between a short window and a long one.
| Country | 1 day | 3 days | 7 days | Per day | Rent |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rent in UK | $1.44 | $2.52 | $4.68 | $0.67 over 7 days | Rent |
| Rent in Finland | $2.00 | $3.50 | $6.51 | $0.93 over 7 days | Rent |
| Rent in USA | $2.40 | $4.20 | $7.80 | $1.11 over 7 days | Rent |
| Rent in Italy | $8.16 | $14.28 | $26.52 | $3.79 over 7 days | Rent |
Prices are per rental, in USD, and come from the live rental catalogue — they move with supply, so treat the table as today’s rate rather than a fixed price list. The cheapest way to hold a Skype number right now is UK over 7 days, at $0.67.
Rent a Skype Number Alternative via API
If you’re looking to rent a Skype number, you’re a little behind the times. Microsoft officially pulled the plug on Skype Numbers, so you can’t grab a persistent landline number for incoming calls anymore.
Quick Answer
- Skype Numbers are dead, but the need for temporary numbers isn’t.
- The fix is renting a virtual number from an SMS verification platform.
- You can get a Canada number instantly for OTPs via API.
- Prices start around $0.10 per activation; no subscription needed.
- APIs allow full automation for CI/CD pipelines.
Why "Rent a Skype Number" No Longer Works And What to Use Instead
Microsoft officially discontinued its Skype Number service. That means no new sign-ups and no call forwarding for existing users. But the need for a disposable number for verification is still very real. The modern fix is renting a virtual number from an instant SMS verification platform that works for OTPs without tying you to a dead Microsoft product. Skype numbers were call-only; virtual SMS numbers work with any service that sends a text code, which is what 90% of users actually need. If you were searching for Skype number rental alternatives, this is the correct pivot. Your compatibility expands, not shrinks, because you aren't limited to a legacy call system.
Rent a Canada Skype Number for Verification
If you need a Canadian phone number for verification, say, for a service that only accepts CA region codes, you don't need a relic Skype line. You can rent a Canadian virtual number instantly from a platform with global and Canadian number coverage, receiving OTPs from Telegram, WhatsApp, and local apps in real time. This is the direct substitute for the old “Skype Canada Number,” but built for SMS rather than calls.
How to Choose a Skype Number Rental Alternative
Don't fall for "free Skype number" scams; they have terrible delivery rates. Instead, verify your alternative supports the specific app you're verifying. Follow this checklist:
- Check app coverage: Does it support WhatsApp, Telegram, Google, or niche Canadian apps?
- Verify rental flexibility: Opt for 7- or 30-day rentals (not just pay-per-SMS) for ongoing operations.
- Confirm refund policy: Ensure you get a refund if no code arrives; this is a hallmark of trustworthy platforms.
- Look for an API: If the provider lacks an API or rental options, they're not built for serious developer use.
Key Takeaways
- The “Skype Number” product is retired; virtual SMS rentals are the standard replacement.
- Canadian numbers are available instantly for region-locked apps.
- APIs allow full automation for developers wanting to skip manual steps.
- Always check for refund policies and rental windows (1–30 days) before buying.

How renting a Skype number works
Four steps, and the window only starts at step three.
Pick the country
Choose from the table above. If the Skype account already exists, match the country it was created in.
Pick the window
1 day, 3 days or 7 days. Longer windows cost less per day, so pick for how long you actually need the number.
The number is reserved
It appears in your dashboard and is held for you until the window ends. Nobody else receives its messages while you hold it.
Read codes as they arrive
Every Skype message sent to it shows up in the dashboard, as many times as you need during the window.
Rent it, or just take one code?
Renting costs more than a single activation, and it is the wrong choice for a one-off signup. Here is when each one is the right call.
Rent a Skype number
The same number, held for 1 day, 3 days or 7 days, taking as many Skype codes as arrive. Pick this when the account has to survive — you will be signing in again, re-verifying, or recovering it later.
From $1.44 for 1 day.
A temporary Skype number
One private number for one code and a few minutes, then it is gone. Pick this for a signup you do not need to get back into.
A free Skype number
The shared public pool. Free, but everyone can read it, so it is for throwaway testing and nothing that belongs to you.
One Skype verification
A single activation on a private number: one code, one account, no window to manage. The cheapest way to get through Skype signup once.
Questions about Skype rentals
How long can I rent a Skype number for?
1 day, 3 days or 7 days. The window starts when the rental is created, and the number is reserved for you until it ends — it is not shared with anyone else while you hold it.
Can I receive more than one Skype code on it?
Yes. That is the difference between renting and a one-off activation. A rental keeps accepting Skype messages for the whole window, so you can sign in again, re-verify, or recover the account without buying another number.
Is it the same number for the whole rental?
Yes. The number does not rotate during the window. If you need the same number again after it expires you rent it again, and whether that exact line is still free depends on supply at the time.
Which country should I rent in?
UK is the cheapest in the table above at $1.44 for 1 day, but price is not the only thing to weigh: some services treat a number from the country the account was created in differently. If the account already exists, match its country.
What happens when the window ends?
The rental stops and the number goes back to the pool. Anything sent to it after that does not reach your dashboard, so move any account you still need off it before the window closes.
How is this different from a temporary number?
A temporary number is for one code and a few minutes. A rental is for days, takes as many Skype codes as arrive, and stays the same number throughout. Rent when the account has to survive; take a temporary number when it does not.
Is renting a virtual Skype number alternative legal?
Yes, renting virtual numbers for legitimate account verification is legal. It only becomes problematic if you use them to bypass terms of service or fraud prevention. We are not affiliated with any app or website; please follow each app's terms and local regulations.
Why did my code fail to deliver on the rented number?
Usually, this happens because the sender's network flagged the virtual number range. Occasionally, the carrier doesn't support SMS delivery to VoIP/rented ranges. Our refund policy covers this: if no code arrives, you don't pay.
What’s the difference between one-time verification and renting a number for 7 days?
One-time activation is perfect for a spontaneous sign-up. If you need to re-login on a new device weekly, you'll want a rental window (1–30 days) so the same number stays active to receive repeat OTPs.
What should I NOT use a rented Skype alternative number for?
Never use them for transaction-sensitive banking, government IDs, or bypassing anti-fraud systems. They are for privacy, testing, and marketing list protection only, not for serious legal identity.
How fast do I receive the code after renting the number?
The number appears in your dashboard instantly after payment. The OTP arrives in real time (usually within seconds, depending on the sender's network), and the dashboard updates instantly with the incoming SMS.
